The Balboa Shipyard was built during the Panama Canal Construction. It was envision as part of the operations of the Canal, and for more than 50 years it was the base for the Panama Canal Industrial Division. The first Dry Dock built was the Panamax Dry Dock. It was built with the same dimensions, and specifications of a Panama Canal Lock Chamber.
